Sharlinie Mohd Nasyar or Nini, 5, went missing Wednesday morning after going to the playground at PJS 2 in Taman Medan, Kuala Lumpur at about 11am. New Straits Times writes that a police report was lodged the same day by father Mohd Nasyar Mat Hussain.
Utusan Malaysia reports that Sharlinie was last seen wearing a light blue tee-shirt and pink slippers. She is about one meter in height, weighs 20 kilogrammes, and has short hair with a round face.
District police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed also released the photofit of a suspect who had on Monday abducted a 6-year-old girl in the neighbourhood. Those with information on Sharlinie’s whereabouts, or on the suspect, to contact RakanCop at 03-21159999.
Bernama request that anyone with information on Nini’s disappearance to contact the nearest police station, or call her mother Suraya Ahmad at 016-2709096 or Mohd Nashar at 016-2583450.
Well done, Kak Tembam! Where’d you get these photos from? I’ve been staying up all night for news and info. I’ve already posted about Sharlinie’s missing status some hours ago, including her physical descriptions and the clothes she’s wearing on the Nurin group on Facebook. I’m going to blog this alert too.
Hi Munira, from New Straits Time this morning. Baru je. Nak baca Utusan’s report plak. The Media are getting on the ball. Will praise them for it in next post. need to keep this info going until this little girl is found.
Munira, did they think it would never happen again? That a child would go missing?
People tend to forget that the lightning does indeed hit the same place twice. Tbh (I know this sounds awful), I was anticipating for this to happen, just not this soon. However, I also would like to state that it might not be the same person (never jump to conclusions). I know that the police have stated that they think it could be related.
Let’s just hope and pray for the girl’s safe return. In the meantime, stay alert.
Btw I copied the photo from you (didn’t know it was from NST at that time) to upload on the Nurin group. I’ve also msgd everyone on the group as well. The wider the alert spreads, the better.
Ya I forgot to credit NST for the pix. Thanks for the reminder. Also, the TV have been broadcasting this since last night. I went to bed early so did not catch the news.
I am really glad the parents, the police and the media did a fast job of alerting the public. Now the community have got to play their part.
The TV and radio are the still the best means of an immediate alert systme. i hope and pray the child will be found safe and we can breathe easier.
It may or may not be connected. Copycats are everywhere when it comes to crime right??? Now, instead of blaming every body, they should just go find the child first and when she is rescued, then talk about everything else!
Pray Munira, pray for this child to be found!
As long as people keep their opinions, conjecture and speculations and focus their full attention towards a systematic search and rescue, it should be all right.
I was quite surprised (and strangely touched) that my dad called me yesterday evening, even though it was close to 2 a.m. local time. My dad’s the type who sleeps really early. He called me just to tell me about Sharlinie’s disappearance, and we both spent a good 45 mins talking about it. My dad openly expressed his faith in our police – I know many would not agree with this. In any case, let’s keep all criticisms to ourselves and focus on cooperating with the local boys in blue.
And I am sure at the back of all our minds everyone is thinking, please let this not be another Nurin. What more convincing do the authorities need?
I just hope they politicians and everyone else will zip up their mouth and their pants and get on with the job of finding this child!
I think your dad misses you too!
Take care dear!
Kak Tembam, I’ve blogged an alert on my Diagnosis Crime blog. Let me know what you think.
I’ve read the post. Good job! Munira, I am adding the parents handphone numbers as well. The police will be tracing all calls I’m sure. If there is any dimwit stupid or mean enough to make crankcalls, for sure they will be traced. What’s important is that even the perpetrator might want to contact the parents for their own sick pleasure. This will be a good avenue for police to get some leads. I’d say publish the phone numbers!
Hehehe thanks. And well done, Kak Tembam!
Crank calls are not the only thing we have to worry about. Sympathetic phone calls should be discouraged too. We also need to remind the public that the lines should be kept clear for only urgent calls, such as calls from potential witnesses or hot tip-offs (I remember Nurin’s parents mentioned something about that in a report somewhere). Get them to show that the responsible way to show that they truly care is by spreading the alert wider and keeping a sharp lookout for both victim and suspect.
Hi Tembam,
Thanks for the update..I have posted this on my site and hopefully this gets resolved asap! Ill pay extra attention here for more updates!
Thanks!

Betul tu Munira! There is need to educate the public on this too. Feel helpless though.
Thanks Abinesh!
Tembam, this is the second in less than a week. The first wasn’t molested, it seems. The second. This man just can’t control his impulses.
I really hope the cops are serious about forging relationships wth the people. Memang betul the police can’t take care of each rakyat, tapi we want a reasonably strong and efficient and clean force.
When I pushed to set up persatuan penduduk at my place after a robbery, I was surprised that everyone tak kenal each other. I’m happy that i managed to bring everyone together, but we still need to get them to pool together to install back lane lights and be more kaypoh at night and look out for each other’s houses and suspicious people. Sometimes, it seems, we are the only kay pohs….people just seem to go back to living in their own oysters.
I’m quite surprised, in view of the first abduction of the other girl this week in Kg. Medan, why was there no increase in police patrol or security in that area? Did they not expect another girl will be spirited away soon enough? Can’t always blame the parents. The authorities need to be more proactive as well.
And how come Sharlinie’s disappearance was not made the big headlines?

He even took the trouble to snap photos from the television screen as the news displayed the images of the suspect and the victim. At least, I think the pictures belong to him. In any case, bravo for effort!
” Shahrizat then reminded parents that the safety of their children was in their hands.
“It is not the responsibility of the police. Don’t assume a playground is safe. From what I see, no area is safe.”
Shahrizat also did not rule out the possibility of taking action against Sharlinie’s parents for negligence.
“The parents are being interviewed by the Welfare Department and they will come up with their findings soon.” ”
I’m not sure if it’s fair to press charges on Sharlinie’s parents, especially blatantly announcing it to the public at this stage. I believe that Sharlinie’s parents deserved as much support as possible, and their morale at this point are probably at their all-time low. The investigations just barely heated up, and already the fingers-that-be are slowly moving upward and forward to begin pointing. It’d be much wiser to focus full attention on the search and rescue rather than blathering on whose fault it was and declaring their intentions to press charges.
Thanks for the update Kak Tembam! I was looking for her picture!
Helo Kak,
Have posted also on my blog. Hope you don;t mind, i also got linked to ur blog….cause ur post more steady.
Really hope she will be found soon.
And i seriously hope no ding dongs will tie up the line by crank calls or giving false information.
Looks like this time there is a more organised effort by the police and the media. Alhamdulillah it’s a good start.
Now, if only they’d put the girl’s photo on billboards for all and sundry to see, it’d be even better. Rather than letak gambar public figures yang orang memang dah kenal… baiklah letak gambar missing children kan? Bagi orang ingat betul-betul how the girl looks like…
Read the papers yesterday with a sickening churn in my stomach, 2 abduction in less than 48 hours. Noted that Sharlinie got huge coverage since yesterday, BHarian has a full poster of her at their back page, Suria FM promised an hourly update of the child, definitely better coverage during Nurin’s time. Again – why did her parents allow her out of the house without an adult, dont they ever learn, and the Police better buck up this time, everyone is eyeing on the case! No more Nurin.
Hi Tembam,
How are u,
It’s been so long since I last blogged in. Sibuk sgt sejak maid balik kampung. Now dah keja, getting more busier sampai tak sempat nak touch the laptop pun. Anyhow ,will find my time to post about Ninie. Got a shock last nite but didn’t get the chance to catch with the latest news.My first thought was that Master Silat mentioned by En Jasni in his blog and the Prof. At this critical time, their helps are most needed and shouldn’t be delayed.
tembam, i copied and paste the story to my blog. hope u dont mind ya? im too pissed off to write it myself.
i hope shes found soon.
yes i am reading your blog ma. i saw in TV3 they interviewed Nurin’s dad after he visited this girl’s family and he said we should go and have spotchecks in people’s houses. i know he means well and all that but how on earth can we do that without warrants and everything?
Dear All, so sorry I couldn’t attend to your comments earlier. Was at Team Building Camp in Port Dickson. Forgot to tell you superfeist. Jangan marah! Went on Friday morning and just cam back today. It was a good session.
Hi Munira, I suppose the authorities have to make these interviews as part of the police procedure. Let’s hope they concentrate on finding the child first.
Feeling tired, will blog more later.
Sambung sikit. I am just wondering who on earth has taken her and what has he done with her. It is just unbelievable that with all this massive publicity the person who took her has not returned her. I hope he has not harmed her. How about all those who saw her abduction or those who suspect that someone is keeping an abducted child. Raising the NURIN Alert is the easy part. Now, we have to go all out to find her alive. That’s the more difficult task at hand.
Your welcome Naoko. Thanks for helping to spread the info. Lots of blogs have featured her info. I hope some good will come out of your efforts and that we find her alive!
Nightwing, you are more than welcome. Hope your effort will help us find her. I wish I could do more. I believe everyone is coming forward to help find her. it would be great if we did! Let’s all do out part. We need to find her fast!
Betul tu Pi Bani. Niat nak letak gambar depa tu berbeza dengan nak letak gambar Nini. I agree, we should suggest this to the authorities. Someone has to pay for it though. Would any company come up with a corporate social responsibility effort to do this? That would be good indeed!
Thank God Mary Kate that everyone, including the media is helping police to initiative the NURIN Alert for Nini. Let’s hope we all find her alive.
Hi Yatie, yes Jasni told me he was going to see the man today. read about it in Jasni’s blog! Thank you for blogging about Nini. I hope we find her soon!
No prob Farina. I do hope we find her alive. It would awful if……
My dear superfeist, I don’t think that Jazimin is considering the legal aspects. I know that when his daughter went missing he knocked on doors in his neighbourhood to find her. Maybe anyone who suspects a neighbour of keeping an abducted child should alert the police to investigate. There is a learning process going on about triggering an Amber Alert-like response. Let’s hope this painful experience will lead to the child’s rescue alive!
