Waaaa.......Farina, that was a brave admission. Senario is funny but sometimes so absurd that it's painful. I'll admit that in the early days they were hilarious and so much more spontaneous. Now they are getting older and cynicism has set in and their jokes are always laced with innuendoes of the not-fit-for-kids kind that I no longer watch. Yes, I think they still have a slot on TV but can't remember watching any. Malaysians are not so good with spontaneous comedy. There is a new series called Actorlympics that I think is like "Whose line is It anyway" but I haven't watched one to comment.

I like Umie Aida as well and when paired with Rosyam Noor, they make a lethal combination. But because I don't watch Malay movies much except when it comes to TV, I always keep thinking she is a TV actress. I think there are some pretty good TV series coming along and some young actors and actresses who are good looking and less bimbo-ish. Also, some young up and coming directors who are breaking the Yusof Haslam type mould with dramas like Sadiq & Co, Dunia Baru, Kami etc. But nothing close to a gobal hit like Winter Sonata yet!

Tiara Jacquelina makes some good movies and dramas but I think she excels in musicals. No one has ever done the kinds of muscials she dares to stage. I really hope that some day, she can bring her staged muscials on a world tour so many more can enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of Malaysia and Malaysians. She dares to go where others only criticise. I haven't watched her musical because the tickets are always sold out but wish I could have seen P Ramlee the musical!

Girl that was deep! Seriously, YouTube is getting more entertaining than Malaysian TV at the moment. Actually, somebody ought to study what Malaysian humor is because we copy so much from others that we have no identity of our own. As for those forgettable movies by Yusof Haslam, we are now spared the torture as he has turned his talents to more regular money spinners known as TV drama series. I believe he is the most successful at it as his TV dramas have gone on forever. One thing though about detail, because the drama director does not want to delve into the depth of the character or the story, chances are one of the main actors will die at the end, so no sequel, no further analysis, the end!

What are Malaysians good at? Blame, blame, blame....

Malaysian-made…May be not creative or not use to expressing one self….i think probably need some practise.

For this i think is due to the school system where everything is ’spoon fed’.

If notice, most Malaysians or Asians are not comfortable when video camera is pointed at them (wedding dinners or functions)…unlike the westerners…they don't feel anything and can just act normal.

It's all on the delivery, expression and acting skills. Generally I find that a typical Malaysian acting in drama/comedy very flat, wooden and pretentious in most. The dialogue deliverance is awkwardly stiff and unrealistic. I mean, who talks like that in real-life? That's why it's very hard to enjoy a local TV/movie show - it makes me cringe every time I hear or watch a poorly delivered line or performance. Again, the dialogue - who talks like that, really?

For comedy, the Americans are really good at delivering what is termed as "dead-pan" humour (re: Whitest Kids You Know, Arrested Development, Chad Vader). Watch their facial expression and their mannerism when they perform, and you'll understand why their performance is so funny and dead-on the mark. The Brits are well-known for their dry humour and sharp wit - take Blackadder for example, and though the dialogues might sound silly if you try to say it to yourself (like the famous turnip joke in series 3), but again, it's all in the delivery. Remember Mr. Bean and the failed Malaysian version Bendul? Compare these two and try figure out why Mr. Bean was more successful as a comedy, and Bendul failed to live up, even though they're both along the same vein.

Ignore the pretentious glitz and glamour of Hollywood and Bafta, and examine why their shows are watchable - they have eyes for details, they take care to fit in the situation with the characters and their mannerisms - ranging from the wardrobe to the background - it's belieavable. Even Hong Kong and Bollywood movies have a few titles they can boast about and be proud of. Indonesia has some movies they can be proud of.

This sounds mean, but I just can't enjoy a Malaysian movie/show. Comedies are the worst - but I admit I did actually like Afdlin Shauki's Buli - that was surprisingly entertaining. I'm still in love with P. Ramlee's film works, they're charming and very well-acted out. The local Malaysian movies standards were actually quite good up to the late 80s, then declined somewhere in mid-90s (boo to Yusoff Haslam's wretched Sembilu and equivalent torrid love-affair crap). Today we're mostly barraged by plenty of good-looking people on the screens with larger-than-life personalities and all the glitz and glamour appearances in gossip magazines - but seriously, talent-wise? It's all about looks, and zero on skills/talents. Sweeping statement there, so I'll retract. Granted we do have some good talents out there, but sadly it's the obsession with looks, glamour and fame that barred us from getting into the beyond.

With that said, I thought Puteri Gunung Ledang was actually quite good with the subtle acting from the casts (bravo!), but sadly the presentation was so draggy and boring.

Ya lah Nightwing, we do avoid going on camera a lot. So do I but that is purely because I want to hide my tembam-ness from any ex-boyfriends heh, heh! Malaysians seem to be very hell bent on political satire but not very creative at it. Hhhhmmmm, I think we should all take some lessons in subtlety from Lat. He was a master at it. Nowadays the political jokes are very crude and way too personal for my taste. It's good to have a laugh every now and then but not at someone's expense. It takes some creative genius to be subtle and at the same time pack a powerful punch of a statement. Well, maybe Malaysians just don't have a sense of humour unless it is making fun of somebody! That is awful isn't it? I prefer your singing Nightwing. So any campaign songs to karaoke with? How about River Deep Mountain High but the Easybeats version http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=IAHHKonWCDM&feature=related

Nightwing, they took the trouble to shoot all this just for a laugh but they became hugely popular!? I think we all could use a good laugh these election campaigning days. I notice that some Malaysians are coming up with some politically-laced YouTube clips too but somehow the Malaysian-made ones are just not as funny. Kenapa ek?

Munira that is just unbelievably insane! You are giving me ideas babe! I just don't know where these guys come from. Can we can them and import them here please! We sure could use some of this white guy's insane sense of humor here right now. At the moment, insanity rules in political speeches and it ain't even funny! If I was campaigning, I'd get Russell Peters doing all the talking! Everyone would be laughing so hard they'd be crying. Now with these painful exchange of meaningless political rhetorics which will be forgotten as soon as somebody wins, whoever they may be, we are just crying here!
