Okay, I’ll admit I am a nondescript former journalist who hates politics and I prefer to hide behind my nom de plume of Tembam, heh heh! As I said I hate politics and am struggling to balance my finances but I am passionate about writing. Missed being a journalist until I discovered blogs. Hope my blog makes a difference.
My taglines “When my Atuk called me Mak Embam as a toddler, I knew he probably meant it as a term of endearment because I was a chubby toddler. His cute grandaughter no less. I am now middle-aged, having morphed from chubby to thin to plump to skinny to svelte and back to chubby. I am a BIG girl and Mak Embam just ain’t so cute anymore.”
What’s so bad about big? There are lots of people who are big and beautiful. Well, maybe not in Malaysia as much as in the West but I know I am not alone. Childbirth, middle age and affluence have taken their toll on my midriff and I have now joined the big leagues. I am also addicted to blogging and suddenly got an idea to blog about the big things in life, like making a BIG scrap book about the good, the bad and the ugly side of being generously proportioned. Also, I might add that I am blogging about the big issues.
Hi, how to get the amber alert logo on my blog? Am not blog-savvy but want to post this in support of Nurin Jazlin.
Hi Aida, just right click your mouse on the logo, then click Save As. The logo will be saved in your Pictures folder. If you are using WordPress, go to the Dashboard and upload visuals. Same thing for Blogspot. Don’t paste the link, just upload photo from your computer hardisc. Good luck! Let me know your link okay and you will be on my honour roll.
Hi there, just to ask for permission to copy one of your post into my post to let others especially group of my friends alert about nurinalert. I hope you don’t mind…. in support of our dear Nurin Jazlin…TQ
Hi Laili, no problem. Please do. The more people know about the Amber/Nurin Alert the better. Thanks for your initiative and salam from Tembam to your friends.
thanx… i will..
Assalamualaikum sis,
Wow … cool site. I’m glad you started this ‘Nurin Alert’ campaign. It took years before “Amber Alert’ became what it is today, even in a hyper-blogging society like the US. And like you mentioned the other day, not many really go to english blogs.
Preserverence is the key to success. Although some help from Dato’ Shahrizat would be a real boost, sincerity will carry your ‘Nurin Alert’ campaign to where it should be, InsyaAllah.
I sincerely hope our society isn’t waiting for another incident like Nurin or Nurul Huda (Gelang Patah) to happen again before we realize that no one can feel safe these days unless we do something fast.
Yo bro! I have moments of great agitation. As a former journalist, among my multivarious careers, it is so frustrating when the media does not seem to have it’s pulse on what is important. Can they spare us more stories about politics and more politics. Nurin Alert is not about politics but you’d think they would write about it? No way. Why ever not I say? Heck if it was a bloggers hare brained idea then by all means flog it to death. But it is a tried and proven system and is being used all over the world. Malaysia only has 26 million people and the Amber Alert system works at whatever size of population because it uses what is already there. It is just better coordination between all parties. If it can work in US and EU, what the heck. What is Malaysia waiting for?
Okay bro, spread the word okay. Get you own blog bro and start writing about it!
PS I did not start the campaign. Nuraina Samad did at http://www.nursamad.blogspot.com and http://www.princessjournals.blogspot.com I am just picking up her initiative because I believe it can work and am trying to keep the idea alive but am getting mighty frustrated. Malaysia Ku Oh Malaysia!!!
Ms Tembam, thanks for including me in the Nurin Alert blogroll. A surprise really.heh. btw, my blog is actually called Voice From Within 2.0. minima plus is the template designer’s idea which i do not know how to modify. hehe. thanks!
Hi Voice, ya ke? La tak perasan pulak. Minima Plus pun okey jugak. I’ve changed your blog name. I pun had to learn by mistake in modifying my blog. Eventually we get the hang of it. Blogspot is easier to modify but wordpress has interesting built-in features. Keep blogging sistah!
We could do with amber alert in the UK too. Nice to find a fellow journalist with an equal passion for blogging.
Hi Ellee, actually there is a system in the UK called the Child Rescue Alert. It’s probably not been fully rolled out yet but it started in Sussex after Sarah Payne. I blogged about in earlier. http://tembam.wordpress.com/2007/10/07/amber-alert-malaysia-bila-lagi/
Yes, journalists are driven by the need to put thought on paper. Being highly observant, sensitive and opinionated we just can’t stay away and keep silent can we? I am in marketing communications now but still miss the adrenaline pumping days of working for the New Straits Times.
Visited your website and I must say you put alot of work and thought into it. Impressive!
hi again kak T,
since i dont have your email, might as well put it down here. if you happen to be on yahoo messenger, do add me at goonyboi@yahoo.com
thanks.
Hi Kerp. I will email you okay. Now that is an interesting email address you have there Goonyboi….
Salam Ms Tembam,
May I know who is in the Citizen for Nurin Alert, other than you, nuraina, hanizah (or is this you) and rocky. Need this info ASAP for my article on Nurin alert.
Thanks.
Fariza
Hi Fariza, the Citizens for Nurin Alert (CFNA) committee is somewhat of an unofficial grouping and has grown somewhat. The people who initially met at the OCM to discuss its setting up were:
1. Nuraina A. Samad ( http://www.nursamad.blogspot.com )
2. Akhirudin Attan ( http://www.rockybru.blogspot.com )
3. Jasni Abdul Jalil ( http://www.nurinjazlin.blogspot.com )
4. Nik A. Farez ( http://ridenroll.blogspot.com )
5. Hanizah Hashim ( http://www.tembam.wordpress.com)
The original idea for the Nurin Alert came about after Farina ( http://www.princessjournals.blogspot.com ), a Malaysian living in California, USA posted a comment on Nuraina’s blog. Nuraina proposed the idea in a blog posting and the idea was discussed between Rocky and crime analyst Kamal Affandi Hashim ( http://www.kamalfndhashim.blogspot.com ). Together they coined the term NURIN Alert, an acronym of the “Nationwide Urgent Response Information Network”.
The idea of a NURIN Alert spread like wildfire among bloggers and through various channels, it has caught the attention of the Minister for Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri shahrizat Abdul jalil. We are awaiting inclusion of the NURIN Alert into the Child Protection Policy to address the issue of missing children. In the meantime, the CFNA is continuing to find ways to get the NURIN Alert going. The person that is coordinating most of this is Jasni. Pending it’s official establishment, Kamal Affandi hashim is currently the designated Chairman of the CFNA committee.
Hope this helps!
assalammualaikum tembam..
the first time i entered ur blog was a few days back n now its the one of my ‘have to click’ blog.:).
regards,
intan
Glad to be of help Intan. No problem at all as we want as many people as possible to know about the NURIN Alert. The more we understand how it works the better ti will serve the job of finding a missing child in the shortest time. Let me try to answer your queries:
Komen Tembam menerima sambutan luar biasa dikalangan pembaca blog Jasni. Tercetus idea pembaca Nik Farez mengadakan pertemuan utk membicangan mengenai NURIN Alert dan timbullah Citizens for Nurin Alert.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I’m on the lookout for fellow Terengganu bloggoers and came upon yours. May I put yours on my list at zveloyak.blogspot.com? I respect your wish to remain anonymous and will mention you only as Tembam which is as Terengganu as Terengganu gets although I think I can guess who you might be, at least you sound a lot like someone I think I know.
Hi Zaharan, hmmm who do you think I am? Give a guess!!
Problem is I am not from Terengganu )or Trengganu as Awang Goneng insists). I am KL born and bred but have been to KT a few times for work. Am great fan of Awang Goneng and Sultan Mizan who are both great ‘Ganu-ians.
Actually, I am Hanizah Hashim. Does that ring a bell?? Was with NST for a few years.
I’m honoured but may not qualify for your list. What a blog you have there. Pretty interesting! Refreshing viewpoint too. Will visit often.
Keep on blogging bro!
We do have a similar background but I doubt we have crossed paths. My guess was wrong. Googled your name but there were too many Haniza Hashims! Anyway take another look at my somewhat revamped blog. I am in the habit of ringing the changes even to its name as I easily get bored with my own blog if I don’t make the changes. Don’t forget to drop a comment or two to alert me of your visit. Thank you.
Zaharan, your blog looks great, very professional looking. I enjoy your escapades. In between the adventuring still got time to post an opinion or two. Seems you have quite a few compadres who are into blogging these days like Ancient Mariner and gang. I am not that famous, more nondescript than peripatetic..hehehe!! Keep blogging and sail on bro!!!
Your posts are great – great English & great quality (oh, your a former journalist, thats why, lol).
Anyways, if your not a freelance writer well you should start now and make money online.
Good Luck!

Thanks MJ! Glad you are reading and am honoured with your comment. Actually I have been meaning to try some work-at-home-at-my-own-time but am learning that it takes iron-clad sefl-discipline. The distractions are enormous and self-motivation is the biggest challenge. Will look into this option and have got your website link to get some tips. Long way to go to be a successful freelancer yet but thanks for the boost.
Cheers!
assalammualaikum Tembam….

Congratulations Intan!
Cemerlang lagi. Waa….you really put a lof of effort into your project. I’m sure the C4NA would appreciate the offer. Not sure what happening on that front but then I have been tied up with a lot of personal issues. I hope that learning about NURIN Alert has given you a new insight into the many ways citizens can help themselves and how the community can work together. You will do well in life if you keep up the good work.
Glad to be of help.
